Corporate stooges take issue with anything disrupting the predictability of their supposed labor value. Libraries are filled with books like "Who Moved My Cheese", a workplace change-management parable that became one of the best-selling business books ever printed, sold by the tens of millions to keep labor calm while the cheese moves.1 Or Upton Sinclair, declaring, paraphrased:
It is impossible to get someone to think in any productive way when their jobs require them not to. Upton Sinclair, paraphrased. Original, 1935: "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it."2
01Corporate Education Fails by Design
So when a corporate thinking model of Education tries to create learning integrity, the structure of efforts defines the results... they fail.
Look at the backlash to screentime and edtech currently happening among pro EDU staff and corporate W2 employee parents. The same institutions that pushed screens into every classroom are now pulling them back out:
They used code.org to engage CS education after a national emergency was declared on labor workforce skills. Federal "Computer Science for All" proposals called for billions in funding,6 and a nonprofit backed by the largest technology corporations on Earth7 walked straight into classrooms.
Meanwhile, 8 y/o kids who could already actually write code immediately knew it on contact:
repeat 3 times
turn left ↺
bot.forward();
bot.turn("left");
}
"That's not coding." The kids said it about the "corporate lobbying website" entering classrooms... despite the fact that credentialed labor did not see it.
The credentialed adult did not.
Or how about the use of AI browser extensions scraping data from every site a user visited? Security researchers testing popular AI browser assistants found several collecting and transmitting full page contents, including what users saw on health, banking, and other sensitive pages.8 Then came LLM training data being harvested directly from the Google Drives of users who had no idea how the tech worked... a phenomenon unique to credentialed corporate labor clicking "Allow."
Of course people are upset... they have no functional literacy, and no idea what that even means in practice. The numbers agree:
02AI, Served Like Chewy Candy Dots
Shiny. Sweet. Free. (Data sold separately.)
Now AI is being released like chewy candy Dots, and cute plushie-like characters, that once again loot ignorance and the propensity of corporate stooge brains to chase shiny objects with their ignorance and desire for easy money, easy labor, and zero accountability for results rendered.
It is appropriate to refer to these people as "FREEdumb Bullies," for their role in civil society degrades the same for all people, even those acting smartly, with functional literacy practices driving the integrity of their life.
Structure renders results, and the absence of functionally literate practices points at the cause:
People mis-structured, mis-educated, and mis-aligned to a positive future created by people who care.
Bye Bye Workforce
Structure yields results
03Pay Attention to Reality
It takes intelligence to derive intelligence from intelligence. Luck happens daily. Charity is abundant, and tolerance is overly provisioned.
The time has come to pay attention to reality, and make it possible for young people to overcome the labor that squats on a dead past and drags an abundant future down with each illiterate action they produce.
Own Root. Act Now.
Functional literacy is not a credential. It is a practice. Start it today:
- Write real code. Skip the drag-and-drop puzzle. Open a text editor, write ten lines, break them, fix them. Own the source.
- Audit every tool you trust. Open your browser extensions and your cloud app permissions right now. Remove anything you cannot explain. Read the data and training settings on every AI tool you use.
- Ask "who owns root?" For every platform your kids use in school, ask who controls the data, who profits, and who decides.
- Teach one person. Show a kid or an adult how something actually works, under the hood.
- Show up in person. Live events, music, movement: Individuals building together, in sync, by choice.
