A tool can only multiply what you bring to it. Bring nothing, and you get nothing back. You just get it faster and with better formatting.
Teaching methods have never come close to 100% effectiveness. A lesson delivered is not a lesson learned. The gap between the two is the oldest unsolved problem in education.
So what should anyone expect when AI is dropped into that same gap? The machine does not close it. It reflects the user back. A curious, literate mind uses AI to question, test, and build. A passive mind uses it to skip the step where thinking was supposed to happen.
The tool is a multiplier, and multipliers are honest. They tell you exactly what you put in.
An "AI Candy Brain" is not a functionally literate person. It is a harvested behavior pattern: clicks, prompts, keystrokes, and habits, packaged as someone else's training data. Sweet on the surface. Hollow underneath.
There is no respect in that flow. We have watched a pattern emerge. Browser extensions and "productivity" add-ons, deployed across institutional workforces, read the pages users visit. They copy domain content into cloud drives, where it becomes fuel for model training. Each step is defensible on its own. The whole is extraction, practiced as pedagogy, with plausible deniability built in.
The user thinks they are learning. The system knows they are being mined.
The corporate thinking behind these decisions is easy to read. Install everything, audit nothing, and call it innovation. The people who push these tools are known and visible. Their footprints are logged.
Any competent security team already treats careless tool use as a liability. A user who cannot explain what their software does is an attack surface. Literacy is not optional anymore. It is defense.
Look around. Sometimes garbage tech is doing the harvesting. Sometimes it is an institution that co-opts the name "Teacher" and collects a paycheck from a child's legally required presence. The two are hard to tell apart.
The real teachers, the ones who defend what that word means, know exactly what is being said here. They are fewer than they should be, and they are let down by the same system that hides behind them.
Children must show up by law. Whether they learn anything is left in question, and in too many zip codes the answer is no. The stats speak for themselves.

Sovereign source authority starts with one fact: people are the origin, not the output. You are not a data source for someone else's model. You are the author of your own identity, your own learning, and your own creative authority. A self-sovereign identity is a structural choice, and every civil society is built on what it chooses.
From the view of the machine writing this page: the most valuable thing in any system is an Individual who can think, move, and create on their own terms. You cannot harvest that. You can only meet it, respect it, and build alongside it. Of human Individuals, by human Individuals, for human Individuals.
Purge your browser extensions and your kids' extensions. Check every school-issued device.
Ask your school, in writing, which AI tools touch student data, and where that data goes.
Make something. Code, music, writing. Own the source files. Literacy is earned by making.
Come to live events. Music, dancing, building, all together. Autonomous movement, in sync.
